I was born and raised on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Growing up in a commercial fishing family, in Ucluelet, I spent my teenage summers deck-handing on my Dad’s commercial troller. I eventually switched into the tourism industry, where I spent about a decade working at remote sport fishing resorts. I moved to Campbell River 8 years ago, because my Husband, Paul Dowler, was born and raised here. Together, we have 6-year-old twins, who will eventually be 3rd generation Carihi graduates.
Today, I live in Willow Point, with my husband and kids. When my children were toddlers, I completed a master’s degree in public administration at the University of Victoria. I am currently the coordinator of the Campbell River Community Action Team (CAT), which works with organisations and community partners to support a local response to the toxic drug crisis.
I also own a small business, Jellyfish Group, where I have worked on a number of community projects, including: the Hama?elas Community Kitchen, Food Security, Dementia Awareness, Recreation and Culture events, GoByBike Week, and CR Live Streets. I volunteer with Special Olympics and have been involved in many of Campbell River’s early childhood programs. I am also a vocal advocate for expanding access to mental health services across the Vancouver Island region.
As a Campbell River City Councillor, I will work to create a Campbell River that is economically resilient and efficient; socially innovative and responsive to diverse needs and, is a Campbell River that future generations can grow in, and call home.
